Families facing hard times often encounter difficulties navigating multiple community systems designed to offer help.
.
However, the Community Access Network (CAN), an initiative of the United Way of St. Joseph County and a broad range of community partners, serves as the bridge between people and the resources they need. CAN assists our neighbors through their immediate crisis, promotes self-sufficiency goals and helps create lasting change.
.
Every CAN client has the opportunity to work one-on-one with a Family Development-certified case coordinator to set long-term goals and create a strategic plan to achieve them.
.
Case coordinators utilize a wide range of techniques to help their clients discover their strengths and identify their greatest areas of needs. Next, case coordinators identify programs and services to assist clients by tapping into a network of local agencies that share information through a secure database. This networking approach reduces the need to fill out paperwork for each individual agency and helps clients spend time getting the help they need more efficiently.
.
Through the development of a personal plan of action coupled with financial coaching, encouragement and a support system, CAN clients have the tools they need to succeed.
