August 9, 2017 — United Way of St. Joseph County, one of the area’s leading non-profit organizations, announced that its Board of Directors has selected Laura Jensen as the organization’s new President and CEO effective September 11th. The announcement follows a concentrated search undertaken after previous President and CEO Matt Harrington’s announcement in June that he would be stepping down to fulfill a personal passion as President and CEO of Community Resources, Inc.
“We are extremely excited to have found a new President and CEO with the leadership, poise, deep education experience and passion of Ms. Jensen,” said Kurt Meyer, United Way of St. Joseph County’s Board Chair. “This is a pivotal time for our organization and we are confident that Laura can build on United Way’s historic successes and best prepare the organization to meet the challenges ahead to help meet the needs of people within our local community.”
Ms. Jensen currently serves as the Executive Director at El Campito and is a member of the United Way Board of Directors as the Community Impact representative, which serves as a voice for all United Way of St. Joseph County community impact partners.
In addition, Jensen is President of the Northern Indiana Early Childhood Professionals, Latin America Chamber of Commerce, Ivy Tech Education Advisory Committee and Ready to Grow St. Joe Advisory Board.
“United Way has a long and respected history of building a better community in this area and I cannot wait to join its talented team,” said Ms. Jensen. “It will take a lot of hard work to transform the landscape of our community to as related to reducing poverty, but I feel confident United Way of St. Joseph County is the organization to lead this effort, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of their vision and mission.”
Originally from Fort Wayne, she attended Bishop Dwenger High School and Ball State with a degree in Elementary Education and a Spanish minor. In June of 2016, Laura completed her Masters of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame. At present, she resides in South Bend with her family.
“Laura Jensen has the background and experience needed for today’s collective impact approach,” said Matt Harrington, former President and CEO of United Way of St. Joseph County. “She has the vision and leadership skills that can make a significant, positive difference – not just during the current fight to reduce poverty, but also in future efforts to strengthen our community.”
