United Neighborhoods is a testament to UWSJC’s commitment to addressing the unique needs of historically under-resourced neighborhoods, this cycle is focused on the 46601, 46613 and 46614. Through this initiative, we aim to bring about positive transformation and empower the residents of the community by strategically investing in projects that enhance their quality of life. United Neighborhoods is a fund established to bring social safety net programming to neighborhoods of high socioeconomic need, beginning with the Southeast Neighborhood in South Bend. The fund is intended to focus investments of resources in historically disinvested communities. A spectrum of support that is tailored to the needs of specific neighborhoods allows United Way to identify, implement and track impact more effectively. Services address four critical community needs: 1) childcare 2) health services 3) youth programming, and 4) coordinated social services. Long-term studies clearly demonstrate that interventions focusing on these specific areas of need lead to greater economic, educational, health and social outcomes for the entire community.
