FALL GRANT CYCLE

Timing

Below is the forecasted timeline for the Fall grant cycle, including your application window (Oct 1-31).

Total Funding Amount Available

UWSJC is currently budgeted to distribute $350,000 in this grant cycle.

Education

Education is a cornerstone for success in school, work, and life. Setting kids on the path to success begins with early intervention, and then, through high-quality education, students can graduate high school prepared for college and a career. United Way focuses on long-term solutions and addressing opportunity gaps throughout the cradle-to-career pipeline to keep kids on track to graduate prepared for success. Education is divided into two focus areas: Childhood Success and Youth Success. Childhood Success focuses on early intervention, early-grade reading, and school readiness. At the same time, Youth Success deals with middle grades success, high school graduation, and post-secondary success.

Health

Good health is an essential ingredient for individual success and a thriving community. Healthy kids are more likely to succeed in school. The whole community will flourish when all our residents have access to public parks, playgrounds, nutritious food, and quality healthcare. We are committed to more than short-term charity for a few; We are committed to lasting solutions that build opportunity for all.

Economic Mobility

The whole community benefits when more working individuals and families can stop walking a financial tightrope and get on solid ground. That’s why we focus on lasting solutions beyond charity because financially stable people are more likely to access quality health care, provide a good education for their children, and contribute to their local economies.

Safety Net Services

Safety net services support families and individuals experiencing an emergency or crisis.  UWSJC invests in partners and programs that provide critical food, clothing, shelter, and emergency and crisis intervention services when needed.

UWSJC Guidance

Collaborative or joint applications are encouraged. This demonstrates a more holistic or greater capacity approach to a problem set.  Current economic trends increase hardship for our residents and our nonprofit organizations. Programmatic effectiveness and financial efficiency are essential to create more significant outcomes.

The intention of UWSJC funding is to be used as a catalyst for program growth, organizational stability, and creating new permanent outcomes for the residents of St. Joseph County.  UWSJC grant funds should not be considered as baseline annual budget revenue. UWSJC views this grant as an investment to improve the quality of life for all residents of our county.  We are seeking the highest Return On Investment (ROI).

Entrepreneurial efforts and incorporation of new best practices are attributes of an organization learning from its successes and failures. Especially during this period of economic uncertainty, organizations must evolve to achieve greater qualitative and quantitative metrics and outcomes.  As stewards of our donors’ funding, UWSJC aims to achieve the highest ROI from each dollar granted to our nonprofits.
